📚 Adventures in reading … week 6 of 2025

I listened to books I started while in New Mexico, I read in the car on the way to cheer adventures & I managed to read a book in 24 hours. It was that good. (My kiddo did the same & said if I wanted to read it, I had to finish it by end of Sunday. Special thanks to the teacher that keep diversifying what we all read.)

With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo

I borrowed it from my kiddo, who borrowed it from a teacher and read itin just over 24 hours.

What a beautiful story about real-life struggles and the many judgments that could have been opportunities. This book brought me laughs and tears.

Loved this thought:

“None of us are hiding from the world. All of us are shining despite what it took us to earn our way here.”

This book makes you rethink all the things that suck up your time and energy. I found it by accident & am glad I did.

🤔 Our families and our homes are each precious ecosystems of opinions and ideas but also of emotions, expectations, dreams & dollars.

⁉️ We have to ask ourselves is what we automate helping us?

🔎 Automation magnifies: if you automate an inefficient process, you will magnify the inefficiencies.

‼️ Play a bigger game than you think you are ready for.

💕 Where you work will influence your personal mission, vision & values; are they aligned?

💯 It’s important to find support outside of your work environment.

🤯 We need to be mindful that not everything that swirls around in our heads is worthy of the emotional investment of our belief.

🤔 It is our choice to believe the messages that are sent to us.

One of my favorite thoughts:

⭐️ Growth and change and progress and reflection are not linear.

Your Brain On Art: How the Arts Transform Us by Susan Magsamen & Ivy Ross

Neuroscience fascinates me … from neuroplasticity & the pruning our brain does to help us. Growing up with my mom as an artist, I learned so much in this book.

‼️ We all have agency in what we engage with and surround ourselves with.

🖍️ Coloring for just 20 minutes can reduce general anxiety and stress.

⚡️ We are driven to learn.

💥 The best kind of learning sparks curiosity & endless discovery. Learning is your own renewable energy source.

⭐️ You can’t learn if you don’t pay attention. You can’t remember if you don’t learn.

‼️ When you are flourishing, you are curious, creative & open to new experiences.

⁉️Curiosity is the building block of flourishing.

‼️ Attention is essential for sparking curiosity.

🔎 Your conscious life becomes what you pay attention to.

Two of my favorite thoughts:

💡 The mistake we consistently make as a society is to tell people who they are.

📗 Knowledge is more than cognitive intelligence. The best learning is a knowing that cultivates wise discernment and understanding and evolves and grows over a lifetime.
